IELTS Band Requirements for Universities in Ukraine

Ukraine’s higher education environment has changed significantly since Russia’s full-scale invasion. Ukrainian universities continue to enroll international students, but applicants should review current safety, travel, visa, and university instructions before making study plans.

International applicants now generally apply through Ukraine’s official digital application system, upload their education and identity documents, wait for university approval, receive an invitation for study, and apply for a Type D student visa if required. The official Study in Ukraine portal states that 2026 applications are open and lists more than 25,000 international students from 126 countries.

Minimum IELTS Band Requirements for Universities in Ukraine

1. Cherkasy National University

• IELTS Band Requirement: No university-wide IELTS minimum was confirmed on the public official admissions pages. However, IELTS 6.0 is published for a Saxion University of Applied Sciences exchange semester, which should not be treated as a general degree-admission requirement.

Bohdan Khmelnytsky National University of Cherkasy is a classical higher education institution in Ukraine with a century-long history. 2. Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University

The university’s current official listing spells the name Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University. It is a state pedagogical university in Uman that admits foreign applicants through the standard Ukrainian process for international students.

Bukovinian State Medical University is a medical university in Chernivtsi. Its official information states that the university has operated since 1944 and has trained more than 35,000 specialists. It includes four faculties, an educational-scientific institute of postgraduate education, and 48 departments.

One confirmed course-specific example is the MSc in Informational Technologies for Sustainable Energy Engineering. The official course page lists a bachelor’s degree in engineering, an English placement requirement described as IELTS level 6.5, an internal IFNTUOG professional competency test, and a motivation letter among the entry requirements.

This IELTS 6.5 requirement should be treated as a published requirement for that specific master’s program, not as a university-wide minimum for every undergraduate or graduate program at IFNTUOG.

6. National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine

• IELTS Band Requirement: No current standalone academy IELTS requirement was confirmed. The former academy is now part of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.

The former National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine has been reorganized. The Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies was established in 2021, and the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine became part of the new university. The metallurgical unit now operates as the Dnipro Metallurgical Institute within the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies.

No current standalone IELTS minimum for the former National Metallurgical Academy was confirmed from the public pages reviewed. Applicants should check the current admissions page of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies or the relevant institute for up-to-date language and entrance requirements.

7. Alfred Nobel University

• IELTS Band Requirement: No university-wide IELTS minimum was confirmed. IELTS Academic 6.0, with at least 5.5 in each component, is published for the British Diploma / BA (Hons) International Management pathway.

Alfred Nobel University offers several programs in Ukrainian and/or English. Its current program list shows English-language options in areas such as the British Diploma BA (Hons) International Management, Philology: Translation, Marketing, and International Economic Relations. Other listed programs, including Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, e-Commerce, and Psychology, are shown on the English homepage as Ukrainian-language programs.

The university’s British Diploma page describes a Foundation Programme and a three-year BA (Hons) International Management pathway delivered in English in partnership with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. For this pathway, the page lists IELTS Academic 6.0 with at least 5.5 in each component, or an equivalent international language test.

This should not be treated as a university-wide IELTS requirement for all undergraduate and graduate programs. Applicants should still confirm the language of instruction and admission requirements for their specific Alfred Nobel University program before applying.
