Pioneering Women in STEM is a Swedish Institute (SI) scholarship for women from ten eligible countries in Africa and Asia pursuing Master’s degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in Sweden. The programme combines university education with leadership development and professional networking to help scholars contribute to innovation and sustainable development in their home countries.

Pioneering Women in STEM Coverage

This government full tuition scholarship for international students covers the following:

  • Full tuition fees for up to 2 years
  • SEK 12,000 monthly living allowance
  • One-time SEK 15,000 travel grant for recipients not already living in Sweden

Pioneering Women in STEM Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for Pioneering Women in STEM, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Female citizen of an eligible country (Residence not required)
  • Admission or conditional admission to an approved full-time, English-taught STEM Master's programme
  • Admission through the first international application round; reserve-list and late admissions are not eligible
  • At least 3,000 hours of work experience across no more than three employers
  • Documented leadership experience through work, civil society organisations, or professional networks
  • No previous SI scholarship for academic studies
  • Not currently studying at a Swedish university or holding a degree from a Swedish higher education institution
  • Less than two years of total residence in Sweden before the scholarship period
  • No Swedish or EU/EEA citizenship
  • No Swedish permanent residence permit or disqualifying temporary permit based on work or family ties
  • Meet the academic and programme-specific requirements of the chosen university
