Pursuing a degree in computer science can be competitive. Because the field changes quickly, students should review each university’s current program structure, language of instruction, and admissions requirements before applying.

Serbia has public and private universities with computing-related programs at undergraduate and graduate levels. Below are five universities to consider when exploring computer science and related fields in Serbia.

Top Schools Offering Computer Science in Serbia

1. University of Belgrade

The University of Belgrade appears first on this list. Founded in 1808, it is Serbia’s oldest university. In the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), it was placed in the 401–500 band globally.

Its School of Electrical Engineering is the oldest institution of its kind in Serbia. The school’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology provides education, research, and projects in computer hardware, software, and networks.

At the undergraduate level, the School of Electrical Engineering offers Electrical Engineering and Computing and Software Engineering. Students in Electrical Engineering and Computing select a module after the first year, including Computer Science and Information Technology. Its master’s program in Electrical Engineering and Computing includes areas such as Computer Engineering and Informatics and Software Engineering, and the school also offers doctoral studies.

2. Univerzitet Singidunum

Singidunum University is a private higher education institution. Its official accreditation page states that it was the first private university in Serbia accredited under the country’s Law on Higher Education and lists programs at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.

The accreditation page lists computing-related undergraduate programs such as Information Technology and Computing, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering and Computing, and Software and Information Engineering. It also lists Contemporary Information Technologies and Electrical Engineering and Computing at the master’s level and Electrical Engineering and Computing at the doctoral level.

Singidunum states that internships are mandatory for most study programs and that it has signed around 400 student-placement agreements with companies from different sectors. Students can also access English-language study information through the university’s official Study in English website.

3. University of Novi Sad

Third on the list is the University of Novi Sad. Its Faculty of Technical Sciences includes a Department of Computing and Automation.

The department has sections focused on computer engineering and computer communications; automation, geomatics, and systems control; and applied computer science and informatics.

The Faculty of Technical Sciences offers several computing-related options, including Applied Software Engineering, Computing and Control Engineering, Software Engineering and Information Technologies, and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Computing and Control Engineering is listed at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels, with English and Serbian available as languages of instruction.

4. University of Nis

At the University of Niš, the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics includes a Department of Computer Science.

The department states that its programs prepare students to design and implement software, develop and apply algorithms and artificial intelligence models, and process and manage information.

The faculty offers computer science studies at the bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. levels. The computer science master’s program includes Software Development and Information Management modules. Its current 2025/2026 admissions information also lists a separate master’s program in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.

5. University of Kragujevac

Wrapping up our list is the University of Kragujevac, which was established in 1976. Its Faculty of Technical Sciences in Čačak offers study courses in information technologies, electrical and computer engineering, mechatronics, engineering and entrepreneurial management, and related disciplines.

The university’s accredited-program database lists computing-related options across bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. These include Computer and Software Engineering at the bachelor’s level, Computer Game Development at the master’s level, and Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering at the doctoral level.

Computer Game Development is listed as a three-semester academic master’s program available in English and Serbian, making it a relevant option for international students seeking an English-taught computing-related degree.
