1. Latvian State Scholarships

The Latvian State Scholarships are part of bilateral agreements on cooperation in education and science concluded between the Latvian government and other countries. These scholarships are open to international students from eligible countries that have an agreement with Latvia or offer scholarships for Latvian citizens. They are available for bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. studies at Latvian higher education institutions.

Bachelor’s applicants must have already completed at least one academic year of studies at a higher education institution. Master’s and Ph.D. students from previous higher education institutions may also apply. Scholarships for bachelor’s and master’s studies are granted for up to 10 months, while scholarships for Ph.D. students are granted for up to 11 months.

To start your scholarship application, check first if your country is included in the list of eligible countries. Afterward, you may begin your online application through the official application system. Application documents may include a confirmation letter from a Latvian higher education institution, a curriculum vitae, a letter of motivation, proof of education, two letters of recommendation, a study plan, and a copy of a language certificate. Documents that are not in Latvian or English must be translated into Latvian or English.

The application period usually runs from February 1 to April 1. Applications are evaluated by the State Education Development Agency, and candidates receive the official decision by email and through the online application system.

Students in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th study years of bachelor’s programs are eligible, and the competition takes into account students’ grades from the previous academic year.
