Preparing for IELTS was an important part of my application process because studying in the UK required me to demonstrate an appropriate level of English proficiency.

I studied at the Merchiston Campus, which I found to be a wonderful environment for learning and student life. The university has three campuses across Edinburgh, with Merchiston serving students in areas including engineering, computing and creative industries.

The professors and academic staff were very supportive throughout my studies. Their guidance and encouragement helped me adapt to a new academic environment and make the most of my Master's experience.

Studying in Edinburgh was about much more than attending classes. It was an opportunity to experience a different culture, meet people from different parts of the world, and become more independent.

One of the experiences I particularly enjoyed was attending the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Being able to experience such a vibrant international festival while studying in Edinburgh made my time there even more memorable.

Living and studying in a historic environment like Edinburgh was also an incredible experience. The city's architecture, history, culture, and atmosphere created a unique backdrop to my academic journey.

I believe the strongest aspect of my application was the coherence of my academic and professional journey.

My background in Geography, more than five years of GIS experience, and interest in Environmental Sustainability created a clear progression toward the Master's programme.

I was not simply looking for an opportunity to study abroad. I had a clear academic and professional reason for pursuing Environmental Sustainability.

I also believe that authenticity matters. Scholarship committees receive many applications, and applicants should not simply try to write what they think the selection panel wants to hear.

Instead, applicants should explain their genuine interests, experiences, achievements, challenges, and future goals.

A strong application should show not only what you have achieved, but also why those achievements matter and what you intend to do with the opportunity.

What Would You Have Done Differently if You Were Going Through the Process Again?

If I were applying again, I would start preparing even earlier and spend more time documenting my achievements and experiences.

I would also maintain a well-organised folder containing academic certificates, employment documents, professional achievements, recommendation details, English-language test results, and other important documents.

I would recommend the following:

I achieved an overall score of 7.0, and preparing in advance helped me meet the language requirement with confidence.
