1. Kigali Independent University
- Tuition Fees: 420,000–1,200,000 RWF/year for published first-year undergraduate and B.Tech programs | 1,600,000–2,560,000 RWF total tuition for published Master’s programs; additional fees apply.
Kigali Independent University, also known as ULK, is a private higher education institution whose inception dates to 1996.
ULK offers undergraduate, polytechnic, and postgraduate programs. Its published 2026–2027 first-year fee schedule shows that tuition varies by program, campus, and study schedule. Published Master’s programs generally last two years and charge tuition by module. Students should review the official fee schedule for their chosen program and any additional non-tuition fees.
2. University of Kigali
- International Tuition Fees: $3,960–$5,060 total per undergraduate program | $3,000–$4,160 total per graduate program; administrative fees apply.
The University of Kigali, also known as UoK, is a private accredited chartered university in Rwanda. It began operations in October 2013 after receiving a definitive license to operate as a private university. Its current facts-and-figures page reports more than 9,000 enrolled students.
UoK reports six schools and three campuses: Kigali Main Campus in Kacyiru, Remera Campus, and Musanze Campus. The university states that all its academic programs are offered at the Musanze Campus.
3. University of Gitwe
- Tuition Fees: 350,000–1,605,000 RWF for published 2025–2026 program tuition, depending on the program; separate registration, graduation, and other fees apply.
The University of Gitwe website states that the institution was established in 1993. However, the Higher Education Council’s published operating-institution list uses the name Institut Supérieur Pédagogique de Gitwe (ISPG). Applicants should confirm the recognized institution name and the accreditation status of their chosen program with the Higher Education Council before applying.
The current institutional website publishes programs in nursing, midwifery, computer science, education, and management. A separate institutional page describes its Faculty of Medicine as a proposed faculty undergoing reengineering and relaunch. Applicants should verify the current availability of any medicine program before applying.
4. INES-Ruhengeri
- Tuition Fees: 645,000–2,850,000 RWF/year for full undergraduate tuition | 2,500,000–3,700,000 RWF for full postgraduate tuition over two years; the official schedule also lists subsidized rates.
INES-Ruhengeri opened its doors on November 17, 2003, in Musanze. The Higher Education Council includes INES-Ruhengeri in its published list of private higher learning institutions operating in Rwanda.
INES-Ruhengeri offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across several fields. Its current postgraduate offerings include an MA in Microfinance and a Master of Entrepreneurship and SMEs Management. Applicants should review the official 2025–2026 fee schedule for program-specific costs and ask INES-Ruhengeri whether they qualify for a subsidized rate.
