It’s no secret that Calgary is a great place to live. The city in the Canadian province of Alberta continues to rank highly for quality of life; in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2025 Global Liveability Index, Calgary remained in the top tier of North American cities but ranked 18th globally, after placing fifth in 2024. So, it makes sense that many students from different parts of Canada and outside the country think about moving to the city for higher education. Although Calgary doesn’t currently house any of the world’s top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings, you will find several lower-cost, quality options here, at least by North American standards.
