As the heart of England, London is an excellent place to study. In addition to its history, the city is home to universities that offer quality education and career opportunities. Students can also experience a diverse population, visit museums, and use libraries.

Studying in the UK’s capital can be expensive. However, universities in London offer scholarships and tuition-fee discounts for some incoming international students. Eligibility, application procedures, and award values vary, so review each official scholarship page before applying.

1. Vice Chancellor’s Postgraduate International Excellence Award

Founded as a technology university in 1966, Brunel University of London is one of the UK’s technical universities. It has a history of research, innovation, and teaching.

Vice Chancellor’s Postgraduate International Excellence Award offers a £6,000 tuition-fee reduction for self-funded international students beginning an eligible postgraduate taught or MRes course. Applicants must hold an offer, have at least a UK 2:1 undergraduate degree or an internationally recognized equivalent, and pay the £5,000 course deposit by the applicable deadline.

There is no separate scholarship application form. Eligible students are considered automatically after meeting the academic and deposit requirements. The award cannot generally be combined with another university scholarship, bursary, discount, or award, except for the 2% prompt-payment discount and the Graduate Discount.

2. Ravensbourne University’s Undergraduate International Scholarships

Ravensbourne University London offers creative, business, and technology degrees. Its courses cover areas such as fashion, design, animation and games, computing, and media, film, television, and music.

Overseas fee-paying students beginning an undergraduate or postgraduate course at Ravensbourne receive a £3,500 scholarship for each year of study. The award is automatically applied as a tuition-fee discount.

To qualify, applicants must accept their offer, hold an offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate course, and be classified as overseas students for fee purposes. Ravensbourne’s official page does not describe a separate scholarship application or a first-come, first-served process for this award.

3. Birbeck International Excellence Scholarship

Birkbeck, University of London is known for flexible study options. The majority of its courses are offered in the evening, with classes commonly held between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The Birkbeck International Excellence Scholarship offers a limited number of £1,000 to £5,000 first-year tuition-fee discounts. It is intended for self-funded overseas tuition-fee payers beginning an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate program. Applicants generally need an unconditional offer for full-time study, although students who do not require a Student visa may apply for an eligible part-time course.

Applicants must be ordinarily resident in an eligible country and apply using the relevant regional form after receiving an unconditional offer. Selection is based on a supporting statement of no more than 2,000 words.

4. President’s Ph.D. Scholarships

Imperial College London is a university specializing in science, technology, engineering, medicine, and business.

Imperial’s President’s Ph.D. Scholarships provide full tuition-fee funding for 3.5 years, an annual stipend of £26,500, and a £2,000 annual consumables fund during the first three years. The scheme is available to eligible Ph.D. applicants, including overseas students.

There is no separate scholarship application form. Applicants submit an online Ph.D. admission application and indicate that they wish to be considered for the award. Academic requirements apply, and shortlisted candidates must be nominated by their department.

5. UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship

University College London, or UCL, was founded in 1826 as London’s first university and remains one of the most prestigious universities in the country. Its 11 faculties cover subjects including arts and humanities, engineering, law, life sciences, medical sciences, and social and historical sciences.

UCL states that 33 Nobel Prize laureates are among its alumni and current and former staff. It is also ranked ninth in the QS World University Rankings 2026.

The UCL Global Undergraduate Scholarship supports international students from low-income backgrounds who have applied for full-time undergraduate study. UCL lists up to 33 awards: 10 covering full tuition fees, a maintenance allowance, and a fixed allowance for additional costs; 20 covering full tuition fees only; and three tuition-fee-only awards specifically for students from India.

Applicants must submit an admission application before applying for funding. They can then log in to Portico, select the relevant active application, open the Funding menu, select “Check and apply” under “Funds Available,” and choose the scholarship.

6. University of East London’s International Scholarships

The University of East London offers a range of study options for international students in the UK’s capital.

UEL’s International Scholarships offer £500 to £5,000 off first-year tuition fees. The amount depends on the course and is awarded at the university’s discretion. Students do not submit a separate scholarship application. UEL automatically assesses eligible applicants after they receive an offer, provided their course application is complete, including their personal statement and supporting documents.

The scholarship does not apply to short courses, exchange or study-abroad programs, franchised programs, Pre-Masters programs, International Foundation programs, or pre-sessional English programs.

7. Middlesex University’s Student Starter Kit

Middlesex University has campuses in London, Dubai, and Mauritius. Its international student pages describe a community representing 122 nationalities.

For international students, Middlesex currently highlights its Regional and International Merit Awards. These awards provide up to £2,000 toward course fees for taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The MDX Student Starter Kit is separate from the international merit awards. It can help some students with up to £1,000 of goods, including a new laptop or iPad. It should not be described as a £1,000 cash grant combined with an additional technology package.

International students can use scholarships and tuition-fee discounts to reduce the cost of higher education in London. Depending on the award, support may offset part or all of the tuition fees and may sometimes include help with living costs. These awards can reduce concerns about the cost of studying and living in the UK.
