As a matter of fact, Turkey is the second-largest country (after Russia) in the European area as far as the education system goes. There are about 206 higher education institutions that provide courses and educational programs on different levels for more than 7 million students. A set of policies have been recently implemented so that to facilitate growth and improvement in the overall process of education, educational programs, principles, and methods of teaching. It is fair to say that the efforts paid off. Slowly but surely, the universities in Turkey are gaining popularity among local and foreign applicants.

The process of admission involves several steps to be taken by each prospective student. Before applying to a university, future students gather information about the requirements set up by the universities that offer educational programs they are interested in. one of the most significant factors to be taken into consideration is acceptance rates. This is the factor we will discuss in this article.

Turkey Universities with Low Acceptance Rates

1. Anadolu University

  • Acceptance Rate: 10%

In 1982 a decision to unite the Institution of Education, the medical school, the State Academy of Architecture, and the Academy of Economics and Commerce was made. That is how the Anadolu university was founded. The acceptance rate at this university in Turkey is extremely low, estimated to be around 10%.

This higher education institution has recently been recognized as one of the best universities in Turkey. What makes it so special? The answer to the question is quite obvious. From the very beginning, the university made lifelong learning its main priority. It still stays true to this principle. For almost 40 years it has been contributing to society in the form of various scientific projects and researches while providing necessary solutions and creating innovative learning opportunities. It’s one of the first universities in the world to design and implement a system of distance learning that meets the needs of people who can’t attend classes due to health problems.

The university complex is comprised of 14 faculties and 7 schools that provide undergraduate and postgraduate educational programs in the fields of business, hotel management, tourism, design, engineering, and many others.

2. Middle East Technical University

METU is a public university based in Ankara that is the ideal option for those who want to develop skills and expand knowledge in the fields of engineering and natural sciences. The great news is that the official language of instruction in the university is English. All educational programs and courses are designed to be taught in English.

All non-native English speakers have to provide a certificate (IELTS or TOEFL) proving a level of proficiency in the language. Those who fail to get the required minimum score will have to complete one year preparatory English course. (The course is provided by the university’s school of foreign languages).

3. Ataturk University

  • Average acceptance rate – 54%

One of the most well-known Turkish higher education institutions is the university complex of which includes as many as 30 research centers. Today it serves as a source of great cultural and academic excellence for prospective applicants living in the eastern region.

The university opened its doors for the first time in 1970. Back then there were only 135 students and 2 faculties: The Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Science and Literature. In 2014 there were 90,000 students. Three years later the number increased to 270,000 students. The trend allows coming to the following conclusion: the university is becoming more and more popular among both types of students local and foreign.

Apart from tourism, fine arts, earth sciences, engineering, and medicine, there is also a wide range of programs covering the areas of law, pharmacy, theology, veterinary, and geosciences. The acceptance rate at this university in Turkey is pretty low, estimated to be around 54%.

4. Gazi University

  • Average acceptance rate – 55%

Established back in 1926 the university later went through the process of reorganization and merge with several higher education institutions and academies. It has grown to become a large university complex that has 21 faculties and 4 schools. According to statistics, the most popular among them are the following faculties: The Faculty of Tourism and the Faculty of Trade and Tourism Education. That’s understandable since Turkey has always been one of the most attractive places for those who prefer to spend their holidays sunbathing and swimming in the sea. If tourism is your passion and you aim to build a successful career in this area, then a degree from this university will be a step towards your goal.

5. Ege University

  • Average acceptance rate – 57%

This is one of the oldest universities in Turkey that started with the Faculty of Medicine and Agriculture in the middle of the 20th century. In 1982 the university complex was expanded to 17 faculties, 9 college-type schools, and 8 campuses. Education, communication, economics, science, engineering, design and architecture, health and dentistry, nursing, and medicine are the fields in which the university offers sets of bachelor’s and master’s educational programs as well as additional 2-years and 4-years courses.

The university also strives for creating opportunities for its students in terms of cultural, social, and personal development.

Pay attention to the acceptance rates of the Turkish universities you decide to apply to. It is a significant factor. Why? Because it gives valuable information about how difficult it is to enroll in this or that university. The lower the rate is, the harder it is. Therefore, you should do your best while preparing for tests (language proficiency and other exams) and writing your application letter. Otherwise, you are likely to fail on the way to your dream. So, don’t rush, and better take your time when getting everything done.
