1. University of Hyderabad

  • Acceptance Rate – 99%

The University of Hyderabad has the highest acceptance rate in India, with about 99% of the applicants getting a chance to study at the institution. It was established in 1974 and hosted more than 5,000 students. Located in Gachibowli, the university attracts both local and international students. Are you interested in studying in Hyderabad? As part of the process, Hyderabad conducts interviews and written tests before the final evaluation is done.

 

2. Jamia Millia Islamia University

Jamia Millia Islamia University was founded in 1920 during British rule. As a central government university (since 1988), the government of India fully funds all its academic programs. The institution is subdivided into nine faculties specialized in various subjects. It is 17th among all Indian universities which are impressive for a university with such a high acceptance rate. It is almost a guarantee that once you apply to join Jamia Millia Islam, you will be selected provided your profile matches the requirements. The university conducts both oral and written tests during applications to narrow down to the most qualified students.

 

3. Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur

  • Acceptance Rate – 97%

Next on this list is the third-oldest technical institute in the state of West Bengal. Initially established as an exclusive training institute for scientists and engineers in 1947, the Indian Institute of Technology has since diversified its academic structure to suit other fields. Apart from engineering, the university also offers programs in law, management, architecture, and humanities. It hosts over 11,000 students (6,000 undergrads and 5,000 postgrads). With a 97% acceptance rate, you have a very high chance of securing a chance if you apply for Kharagpur. Similar to other IITs in this article, the application is made through the Joint Entrance Examination.

 

4. Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati

  • Acceptance Rate – 81%

Founded in 1994, IIT Guwahati is the sixth institute of technology established by the government of India. It is one of the universities in India with high acceptance rates. The first phase of its academic programs commenced in 1995 with students enrolled in Bachelor of Technology. This Assam-based institute is recognized by the Indian government as an Institute of National Importance. According to the 2018 data report, IITG currently hosts about 6,000 students with over 3,000 of them being postgraduates. The 81% acceptance rate means that about 81 students in every group of 100 applicants are admitted to their preferred courses. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, IITG is ranked 112th in the world.

 

5. SRM Institute of Science and Technology

  • Acceptance Rate – 79%

SRM Institute of Science and Technology, or SRM University, was founded in 1985. It was initially known as SRM Engineering College before being renamed SRM University in 2006. It, however, adopted the current name in 2017 after UGC requested the word “university” to be dropped from the name. Apart from the main campus in Kattankulathur, the institution has other five campuses within the country. You can apply for a chance online, whether Indian or international student and the application fee is Rs. 1100/-.

 

6. Banaras Hindu University

  • Acceptance Rate – 67%

Initially known as Central Hindu College, Banaras Hindu University is reported as the largest residential university in the region and also one of the Indian universities with a high acceptance rate. The university is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, with the main campus covering over 1,300 acres of land. BHU was founded in 1916 as a college but is currently one of the best universities in the world. If you are looking to apply for a space in BHU, you can rest assured that your housing plans have been made a lot easier with the 60 residential hostels available for students. In terms of research and experience, the university runs Sir Sunderial Hospital, the largest referral hospital in the region.

 

7. University of Delhi

  • Acceptance Rate – 63%

University of Delhi (DU) was founded in 1922, and its initial population was 750 students. It has since grown to become the country’s largest university hosting over 300,000 students. Undergraduate and postgraduates at DU add up to about 115,000 while the rest are enrolled in other programs. The 63% acceptance rate is probably due to its capacity which can handle most of the applicants. You, however, still need to have outstanding academic results to fall under 63%.

 

8. Amity University

  • Acceptance Rate – 62%

With one of the most vibrant and innovative communities in Asia, Amity University is – without a doubt – among the best research institutions in the world. This private university is ranked as the best non-profit institution for higher education and has over 80 worldwide research partners. Apply for one of the annual scholarships available, and you could be part of this futuristic project. The acceptance rate at the university is just over 62%, which means you will need to be an outstanding performer to get a chance to study with the best.

 

9. University of Kerala

  • Acceptance Rate – 59%

Found in 1937, Kerala University is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was the first university in the State of Kerala; in fact, it started even before the state was formed. Despite the ups and downs through decades, the university has remained one of the best in the country. It is subdivided into 16 faculties, and 41 departments specialized in various fields.

 

10. Gujarat Technological University

  • Acceptance Rate – 57%

Finally, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) concludes this list with an acceptance rate of 57%. Based on this percentage, admission to GTU is fairly competitive, with nearly half of the applicants missing out. GTU is also the youngest on this list; established in 2007 and has about 4,000 students enrolled in various programs.
